Spacesuit gloves are made of many layers of insulation materials and tough fabric for pressurization, warmth, and protection, yet they are flexible enough for the astronauts to handle tools and do tasks with their fingers. Various glove designs have been developed in the quest for improved comfort and utility. This Phase VI glove, designed by ILC for the shuttle-era spacesuit, has a silicone coated palm and fingers for durability and flexibility. This is only the outer cover, the protective thermal micrometeoroid garment that resists wear and tear. Over the years, NASA transferred to the Museum this and many other spacesuit gloves from the shuttle era.
