Scope and Contents

This collection consists of twelve reels of microfilm from the Arthur and Elizabeth Schlessinger Library on the History of Women in America, Radcliffe College. The reels consist of the papers of Amelia Earhart and related collections. The film includes two large collections: the papers of Amelia Earhart, which were saved by her sister, Muriel (Earhart) Morrissey, and the papers of their mother, Amy (Otis) Earhart. Also on the film are three small manuscript collections and three small photograph collections. The papers of Clarence Strong Williams, AE's navigator, an additional folder of Amy (Otis) Earhart letters, and one folder of papers of Kenneth Griggs Merrill, a friend of AE, complete the manuscript portion of the film. The majority of photographs of AE are in her own papers; additional photographs donated by others are filed and described separately. They have been filmed following the manuscript collections. Complete inventories for every collection are filmed at the beginning of reel 1, and each inventory is filmed with its collection.
