Mars passed 0.3 degrees from the Waning Gibbous Moon on July 17, 2003 around 4:40AM EDT.

Mars was approximately 71.35 million km (44.35 million mi.) from Earth and the moon was 387,673 km (240 888 mi.) from Earth.
